From Middle English flacken ("to palpitate, flutter"), akin to Middle Dutch vlacken ("to flicker, flash, sparkle"), Danish flakke ("to wander"), Swedish flacka ("to rove, rove about, ramble"), Icelandic flakka ("to move").
