They're spooner quotes - if you go to the word listing for work and lobotomy, you'll get the full experience. Didn't want to list whole sentences...

Yep! Black socks with sandals, plaid shorts, funny ties--the whole deal. AND a senseless devotion to the useless pastime of one's choice (though at times I suspect that I may have inherited that particular quality).

Oh, and vintage Hawaiian shirts, which have become de rigeur at family gatherings.
