Thanks, madmouth! I put mahabharatha on Monovocalic Proper. The wye knocks out natyashastra (I know, it's not used as a vowel there, but that's my rule).

Go ahead and start that phonetic monovocalics list if you'd like. Or does someone already have one?

There should be a sister list based on phonology rather than spelling (e.g. cheery; eerie), or a truly baroque monovocalics in spelling AND phonology one (e.g. finish; whistling).

I really love this list, but I wish it were seperated by vowel... perhaps I'm neurotic like that. But your tagging of these words makes it close to that.

Hi Bilby! Once upon a time I downloaded a circa 300,000 word list (from a site I can't find online anymore), and put it in a database where I do pattern searches. Then I look up the words I don't know, because the list is dirty (typos, and verb forms that seem not to exist), and of course find others words along the way, usually in MW3 or OED2.

How do you find them molly? Do you trawl through dictionaries endlessly or is there a way of searching for monovocalic words a bit more automatically?
