Chaperone proteins always made me giggle in biochem - I prefer it to chaperonin. And German science words are the best, thank you. I thought they had renamed sonic hedgehog along with the rest of the genes with interesting names. Ooooh - there's a good list.

I nominate gedankenexperiment and chaperonin. The second term refers to a type of protein complex that assists other proteins when they fold from the linear form in which they are synthesized to the correct 3-dimensional form. Certain proteins are prone to misfolding; the presence of the appropriate chaperonin can help prevent this. Certain chaperonins are also known as heat-shock proteins.

And no list of this kind would be complete without giving a nod to the sonic hedgehog gene. I believe that the tiggywinkle hedgehog gene has been renamed.
