PossibleUnderscore Hey-- I never said they were artistic drawings, or particularly good. But thanks, I guess.
(PS. It's 'were' ) Oct 8, 2010
bilby How much wall space to you have?! Aircraft hangar?! May 16, 2010
PossibleUnderscore Thanks reesetee for the link and agatehinge for the quote. Appreciate it. To think I only saw them now!

PossibleUnderscore The problem I'm facing with drawing people is that often I can't find out how tall they are and I would like to have them all life size. I think I have a few wrong anyway (Ravel- 1.52 m/ 5'??). But I like to have something to go by.
As to 'nineteen three' vs. 'nineteen oh three', I noticed that as well, but took it as a slip of the tongue. I haven't heard it anywhere else before or since.
ruzuzu: Snow leopards are gorgeous! May 16, 2010
plethora Strangely enough, the thing that struck me most about the pictures of Haile Homestead was the fact that the date was written as "nineteen three". These days, in most natural speech at least, it'd be more likely to be "nineteen oh three". Makes me wonder when that would have changed.
I found it noteworthy. Just me? May 16, 2010
fbharjo What no Locat-ion-telli (Locatelli)! OR Scar-alot-ti(Scarlatti). Composers may be drawn more than lifesize! May 16, 2010

reesetee Then there's Faulkner's office at Rowan Oak, on which he recorded the plot outline of A Fable. Apr 13, 2010
agatehinge Came across this today, I thought you might enjoy it.
"Poe had no little talent for drawing, and Mr. John Willis states that the walls of his college rooms were covered with his crayon sketches, whilst Mr. Boiling mentions, in connection with the poet's artistic facility, some interesting incidents. The two young men had purchased copies of a handsomely-illustrated edition of Byron's poems, and upon visiting Poe a few days after this purchase, Mr. Bolling found him engaged in copying one of the engravings with crayon upon his dormitory ceiling. He continued to amuse himself in this way from time to time until he had filled all the space in his room with life-size figures which, it is remembered by those who saw them, were highly ornamental and well executed." PossibleUnderscore I should hope they are documented, even if they're just telephone numbers and orders. Interestingly, we have transcribed many Ancient Egyptian shopping lists that were originally written on papyrus, though they have been of little use to any historian. However, I imagine that the people of Evinston would be very interested in the history of their city and I have always found that the most seemingly trivial of writings are the ones that tell you the most about the people. Especially when you can actually see the handwriting. Apr 12, 2010
hernesheir A few years ago I lived in Evinston, Florida. My mails came to an ornate antique post office box locked by 2 combination-lock dials in a historic rustic wood framed general store/post office a few tens of miles from the Haile Homestead's "talking walls" noted in the first comment's link - the walls of the Evinston general store/post office where the ancient crank phone was hung are also spattered with old phone numbers and names, produce and meat orders, and other local info and trivia. Perhaps those names and words and orders should be documented as well! I would think that all those names and numbers would be of interest to serious historians. Apr 11, 2010
PossibleUnderscore Wow! That is wall art! Absolutely fascinating. Apr 11, 2010
hernesheir Growth charts on the door jamb - as a kid growing up comparing my sibling's progress to mine. In my Florida town there is preserved an historic old plantation house with family writings all over the "talking walls". Apr 11, 2010
