A single word I say...
It's only words

We really do like the humorous uses, I promise, and we often call across the office to each other to point out new and great ones, but there is a limit to how many vexamples folks are willing to put up with, even if they do spark some good jokes.

I'll comment more over on wordnik about "What's a Wordnik for" ...

  • 19 hours ago, Prolagus said: It certainly was the very essence of Wordie. Not sure about Wordnik, though.

(I hope you understand* that this conversation in here only because of your comment on my profile and my response. It doesn't have anything specific to do with you!)

    *Possible Understanding?

Can I suggest that we move the conversation to wordnik?

    Maybe I've misunderstood someone...?
(VO, I think you hit the nail right on the head, so to speak.)

I think they sincerely thought they could combine the best of both worlds, so I doubt the staff seriously look down on 'by-products'; but they're finding it harder than they imagined to get a fully-functioning site together, let alone one with a design clearly targetted at either purpose. (Witness my comments in various places about how parts of the site seem to ignore anything in the database that isn't a single word or hyphenated, which demotes some of the best Wordie pages to second class: I don't think anyone stroked a white cat when putting that into the design, it just happened to be built that way.)

Sorry if this is a bad place to jump into the meta-site discussion, PossibleUnderscore.

  • 1 day ago, Prolagus said: Thank you, pun...
I don't know if it makes any sense to keep that pronunciation, though. I have a feeling this place was designed to be more serious than wordie was, and my pronunciation doesn't meet their educational-dictionary purposes (you can read on the Feedback page that they "are trying to make the entries better for less-humorous uses").
We can keep that one, but how am I supposed to know when something humorous is gladly accepted or just being tolerated as an ineludible by-product of the merging?
Sorry for being too serious. Perhaps I'm exaggerating.

I was about to make a comment on your comment on procrastination. I then realised it wouldn't be so clever to make it straightaway. Just thought I'd let you know it's coming.
