It is 'Favorite Poems Old And New', Selected For Boys And Girls By Helen Ferris. But it's the sort of compilation that was collecting dead insects in the musty corners of the library when I was a lad. These books, too twee by half for modern for modern tastes, are being jettisoned freely. The copy I picked up in fact bears a stamp which shows it was once the property of the Library Service of Western Australia. I'm quite against libraries indulging in rampant shelf-clearing of 'outdated' books simply because they feel they don't have enough space to keep them. These books are part of our heritage and there is certainly appreciable merit in the verse they contain.
