My favorite words tend to be archaic and obscure--sometimes even uselessly redundant (a trait I'm sure I share with most people on this site). Por ejemplo, why use HIRSUTE when you can just use HAIRY? It sounds sillier, and that's exactly why. Silliness keeps me going, you see. I am currently attempting to list all the synonyms for the word NEBBISH. I used to fight the urge to randomly throw foreign terms into my speech, but no longer, I say!
