I did get off at what I think was the centre of Bytom but there was no sign of the 38 so I continued on line 9 to its terminus, which was also the terminus of line

Bytom was the town in which route 38 operates with (more) heritage stock so I changed trams along the way to get there.

As it turned out this was route 11, which took me around the northern side of Katowice and westward, sharing tracks with routes 19 and 6 to Bytom.
