- Marquette, Père Jacques 1637-1675. French missionary who in 1673 accompanied Louis Jolliet on an extensive exploration of the Wisconsin, Mississippi, and Illinois rivers.

- n. In geology, that section of the Huronian system which is found in the Marquette iron range in the northern peninsula of Michigan and west of the city of Marquette. It consists of metamorphosed sedimentary rocks, and of eruptives of several kinds, and is separated by an unconformity into three well-marked divisions, a lower, a middle, and an upper.
