One of the more unusual Xmas presents I received this year was a short book called A Mathematician's Apology (with friends like these ...), a reflection on the value of his lifetime's work by the eminent Oxford and Cambridge mathematician, G H Hardy (first published in 1940 but this edition Canto, 2007).
