  • n. A term used in composition, indicating that a compound contains the group CH:C, derived from acetylene (C2H2), as acetenylbenzene, C6H5C:CH. It has also been erroneously used to designate the group CH2:CH, styrene (C6H5CH:CH2) having also been called acetenylbenzene.
