1. n. A compound, CH₃COCH₂-COCH₃, formed by the action of sodium on a mixture of acetone and ethyl acetate. It is a liquid which boils at 137° C. It forms salts which are probably derived from the tautomeric form, CH₃COCH:C-(OH)CH₃.
