- noun A compound which in solution in liquid ammonia conducts itself in a manner analogous to the conduct of ordinary acids in water: as, acetamide, CH3-CONH2, which reacts with the ammono-base, KNH2, giving potassium acetamide, CH3-CONHK, and ammonia.
