- n. A flat-bottomed, bluff-bowed barge, of very light draft, especially built for the navigation of the river Humber in England and its tributaries. Sea-going billyboys are generally clincher-built and sloop-rigged, but some are canal-built and schooner-rigged. Many carry a square topsail and lee-boards. The mast is fitted to the deck by a hinge, so that it can be lowered when passing under a bridge.
