- n. A plant of the family Cucurbitaceæ (Sicana odorifera), a native of the American tropics, and sometimes grown as an herbaceous arbor-plant in the Southern States. The fruit is sometimes two feet long, and squash-like, orange or crimson in color, and with a very aromatic odor. There are two or three related species, all tall-climbing by means of tendrils.
