- n. In petrography, a name given by H.S. Washington (1897), to porphyritic lavas characterized by phenocrysts of augite, olivin, and sometimes feldspars, the ground-mass consisting of feldspar with augite and magnetite. The feldspars are orthoclase and labradorite in nearly equal amounts. Ciminite embraces some of the rocks called trachydolerites.
