  • noun A genus of small eagles or large hawks with the tarsi partly feathered, the nostrils oval and perpendicular, the head crested with lanceolate feathers, and the wing more than half as long again as the tail. The type is C. gallicus, a European species, otherwise known as Aquila brachydactyla.
