- n. A genus of bacteria growing in the form of filaments, and especially characterized by what is called false branching—that is, the formation of a filament by the side of another, which, soon diverging, gives the appearance of branching. The principal species, Cladothrix dichotoma, occurs in stagnant or running water containing much organic matter, especially when putrefying.
