- n. A genus of moths, of the family Epialidæ (or Cossidæ); the ghost-moths. Cossus ligniperda, one of the largest of the British moths, is called the goat-moth, from the disagreeable hircine odor of the larvæ; it expands 3 to 3¼ inches, and is of variegated coloration.
