1. n. Any one of several species of chrysomelid beetles of the genus Diabrotica, as D. vittata, the striped cucumber beetle, D. longicornis, D. soror, and D. duodecimpunctala, the 12-spotted cucumber beetle, also known as the southern *corn root-worm (which see, with cut), which feed on the leaves of cucumber and other cucurbitaceous plants.
2. n. A minute halticid beetle, Haltica cucumeris, also known as the cucumber flea-beetle.
