- n. The typical genus of the subfamily Dendromyinæ. It is characterized by grooved incisors, slender form, long scant-haired tail, and the first and fifth digits much shorter than the others. D. typus or mesomelas is about 3½ inches long, the tail 4½ inches, of a grayi-h color, with a black stripe on the hack, arboreal in habit, and found in South Africa.
