1. n. The thirteenth century. In the history of Italian art the due-cento is characterized by a blending of romanesque and gothic influences, and by the proto-renaissance of Frederick II. (1215–1250), who showed peculiar appreciation of classic art. The chief master of the period is Niccola Pisano, the sculptor and architect (about 1207–1278).
