1. n. A genus of flies, of the family Tachinidæ, comprising large bristly species of a black or blackish-gray color, usually with reddish-yellow sides of the abdomen or with glistening white bands. Among them are the largest European flies of the family Muscidæ in a broad sense, but none have yet been found in America. They are parasitic upon caterpillars. Also Echinomya.
