- n. A native or an inhabitant of Epirus, the northwestern part of ancient Greece, now chiefly included in Albania, Turkey; anciently, a member of one of the indigenous tribes of Epirus. Epirus was at one time a powerful kingdom, and was always independent till conquered by the Romans in 168 b. c. The Epirotes proper, though closely connected with Grecian history, were not regarded as Greeks. Also written Epeirote, Epeirot.
