Definitions

from The Century Dictionary.

  • A family of small sharks, selachians, or plagiostomous fishes, of the order Squali; the topes, in which the spiracles and nictitating membranes are both developed. The common tope, Galeus canis or Galeorhinus galeus, is an example. The family takes name from the genus Galeus, which is the same as Galeorhinus, and is now merged in a more extensive family Galeorhinidæ. See cut under Galeorhinus.
