- n. A box devised to furnish, artificially, conditions of temperature, moisture, and light which are favorable to the germination of seeds for the purpose of testing their vitality by samples. A standard germinating-chamber,' adopted by the American experiment stations and the United States Department of Agriculture is made with double copper walls forming a water-jacket, a side door, trays for the seeds, etc.
