1. n. A genus of sea-ducks, of the family Anatidæ and subfamily Fuligulinæ, having in the male a cuneate tail with the central rectrices long-exserted. The only species is H. glacialis, the long-tailed duck, a very common bird of the northern hemisphere, also called oldwife, old-squaw, and south-southerly. The genns has also been named Pagonetta, Crymonessa, and Melonetta.
