    To yarb: Roberto Carlos told him that `hijo de puta´ was a common greeting here in Spain. Then David greeted some people with that expression until one person told him it was a joke of Roberto and that expression was an insult.

  • Fran: that's the story, yeah. We do have "son of a whore" or "whoreson" in English, but as sean says, it's not used often these days. It was common in times gone by - Shakespeare is full of whoresons.
