  • ... "tubular meat"?

P.S. Nobody but nobody is gonna tell ME not to put mustard between the dog and the bun. Don't mess with Tex—er... I mean, Chained Bear!

Talk of hot dog errors reminds me of my old hot dog eating tutorial. Posted that almost ten years ago, back when Kobayashi was in his prime.

  • There's a pretty good hot dog joint in Annapolis. They fix the age of ketchup accountability at 12, not 18.

  • I'm afraid I have always put the condiments on the bread. Next time, I will try "dressing the dog" as recommended, but I insist on spreading the cream cheese on the bun. I have never put ketchup on my hotdog, but I have only two uses for ketchup: french fries and cocktail sauce.

  • Agatehinge, on those rare occasions I put the mustard on the dog, I always roll it around to smear it on the bread anyway. I do not think it worthwhile to risk dropping mustard (which stains) on myself, thereby wasting its precious essence, and would rather offend the H.D. Etiquette Gods instead.

Also, cream cheese? on hot dogs? seriously?

John, that's mighty cute. :) Thanks for posting.

I agree with John---if you're putting chili on your dog, you can put cheese on it. Otherwise... well... I love those cheesy l'il smokies. (Which I have just discovered is actually spelled "Lit'l Smokies," and now I like them less.)

Cheese on/in brats is more acceptable, I think, than cheese on a dog, unless (again) there's chili involved. And I wouldn't put chili on a brat. That's just wrong.

  • In general I concur with the "condiments on top of dog" rule, but I sometimes make an exception for fried onions.

Planning on scarfing a couple o' dogs for lunch.

  • Yes, cream cheese. What's even more horrifying is that sometimes I underpaint it with butter. And overpaint it with Miracle Whip. Add mustard, horseradish and relish. Also excellent for tomato sandwiches.

The downside is I have to fast for two days afterwards.

  • I feel really good knowing there is actually a National Hot Dog and Sausage council. Safer, somehow.

    May 6, 2010

  • I had the same thought, thtownse. Someone is looking out for our welfare, like.

agatehinge... that's... I'll have to try that. Someday when my cholesterol levels aren't so crappy.

  • Jeez, Kobayashi ate 17.7 pounds of cow brains...in 15 minutes!! Gaaahh

    May 8, 2010

  • Geez, last time I was here, this page was almost blank. Apparently the National Hot Dog and Sausage council has struck a nerve. Or a tooth, I guess. (But God help us, not a nervy tooth.)

Agatehinge, you had me on the cream cheese...until the butter came along. :-)

    May 11, 2010

  • Is it acceptable to patronize Papaya King for lunch and then Gray's Papaya for dinner, all in the same day? I'd do it in a New York minute.
