- adj. Between the pubic bones or cartilages.
from The Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia
- Situated between the right and left pubic bones: as, the interpubic articulation, or symphysis pubis; an inter pubic ligament or cartilage.
The medial border is articular; it is oval, and is marked by eight or nine transverse ridges, or a series of nipple-like processes arranged in rows, separated by grooves; they serve for the attachment of a thin layer of cartilage, which intervenes between it and the interpubic fibrocartilaginous lamina.
Where slight movement combined with great strength is required, the osseous surfaces are united by tough and elastic fibrocartilages, as in the joints between the vertebral bodies, and in the interpubic articulation.
The interpubic fibrocartilaginous lamina connects the opposed surfaces of the pubic bones.
Above, it is blended with the interpubic fibrocartilaginous lamina; laterally, it is attached to the inferior rami of the pubic bones; below, it is free, and is separated from the fascia of the urogenital diaphragm by an opening through which the deep dorsal vein of the penis passes into the pelvis.
The Interpubic Fibrocartilaginous Lamina (lamina fibrocartilaginea interpubica; interpubic disk).
