  • noun A genus of fossil algæ, of the family Laminariaceæ, having cartilaginous, compressed, many times dichotomously branching fronds, provided with turbinate, subglobose, probably bladdery, terminal or axillary expansions, which appear to have served as air-bladders, as in the bladder-wrack.
