Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia
- n. A monotypic genus of the family Liliaceæ, comprising a brilliant-flowered and graceful twining plant, L. rosea, a native of Chile. The flowers are lily-like in form, hanging singly from the upper leaf-axils. There is also a white-flowered form in cultivation. Lapagerias are considered to require much skill in the growing, although they thrive well if a cool greenhouse is given them and they become well established. In the southern United States they may be grown in the open.
