  • noun A culvert or conduit below the floor of a hydraulic lock, connecting the lock-chamber with the sections of the canal or basin both above and below the lock. The flow of water to or from the lock-chamber is regulated by two wickets placed in the culvert, one on each side of the outlet or connection from the culvert to the lock-chamber.
