1. n. A remarkable genus of murine rodents of the family Muridæ, having teeth of sigmodout pattern. It is peculiar to Madagascar, where it is one of two genera which constitute the entire rodent fauna of the island, so far as is known. The genus was established by W. Peters in 1870.
