  • a substance, NOCl, formed by the direct union of nitrogen dioxid with chlorin. Below—8° C. it is a deep orange-colored liquid which boils at that temperature and appears as an orange-yellow gas. With a solution of caustic soda it produces sodium nitrate, sodium chlorid, and water.
