In a world of written communication, the importance of spelling and grammar checking can not be overstressed. oiio wanted to reply with this: dear Lis: in the world of touch typing, the "d" and the "s" are beside each other, on the left hand side of the qerty keyboard; what this means for most of us who are right-handed is that the odd typo, often left-hand related, creeps in; transposing "d" 's for "s" 's is a common one. i wouldn't get too upset about it, and i do not personally believe this reflects a degradation in the quality of language of our culture, university-affiliated or not.
