  • noun An amorphous, deliquescent, easily soluble compound, C6H12O6, made by the electrolysis of a mixture of toluene, alcohol, and dilute sulphuric acid, or by the action of soda on the addition-product of benzene and hypochlorous acid. It has a sweet taste and reduces Fehling's solution, but is not fermentable.
