• An order of dicotyledonous gamopetalous plants, the leadwort family, of the cohort Primulales, characterized by a tubular or funnel-shaped calyx with five, ten, or fifteen ribs, five stamens opposite the five equal corolla-lobes, five styles, and a free one-celled ovary with one ovule pendulous from a long central stalk (funiculus) which rises from the bottom of the cell.
