  • noun In ichthyology, a genus of cyprinoid fishes from the fresh waters of North America. They are known as long-nosed or black-nosed dace. They are abundant in clear fresh streams and brooks of the United States, and include some of the prettiest minnows, as R. cataractæ and R. atronasus.
