  • A family of Paleozoic fossil plants of the order Lycopodiales (which see), typified by and consisting chiefly of the genus Sigillaria. Some of the forms called Ulodendron and Knorria have been referred to this family, and the roots, as well as those of the Lepidodendraceæ, are called Stigmaria. Potonié regards the Sigillariaceæ as the remote ancestors of the Isoëtaceæ.
