my best friend growing up was catholic; her mother had one of these. i think the charge was one quarter. (now, it makes me think of "ten in the swear jar," a band i only know of through a song they covered.)

On a bus trip in Stry many years ago, instead of a swear jar, we were forced to perform humilitating public penance known as dead ants.
I got nailed so many times. I can barely breathe without swearing. *sigh*

When the bus stopped, the offenders had to, immediately upon disembarking, lie on the ground (no matter where or what), raise arms and legs into the air, and wiggle for a predetermined period of time.
I would much rather have paid my 50 cents or whatever. In fact I recall at least one occasion when they said "Chained_bear, that's a dead ant!" and I said "F$%#!!"
"That's another ten seconds!"
"Aw, sh*t, man!--"
"Another ten seconds!"
"Wait, that's not f$%#ing fair--"
"Forty!"

what an unusual use of authority! i don't recall many public humiliation policies from the schools i've gone to.
ha, "no swearing" is always one of the first rules instated in certain drinking games, for that very reason. it works even better on the imbibed.

Dude, if they instituted a swear jar at my company, I'd be broke within a month. But several others would go down too, including the President, so thankfully it's never been brought up.
