Definitions

from The Century Dictionary.

  • noun An instrument designed to reproduce at a distance, by the aid of electricity, pictures or images of visible objects.
  • noun An apparatus for photographing at great distances. It consists of a camera with telescopiclens. Light passing through this reflected from two plane mirrors before reaching the sensitive plate. The double reflection compensates for the focal length of the lens, reducing the camera to small dimensions. The instrument may be converted into a terrestrial or astronomical telescope. Also telephot.
