  • noun Any tetrabranchiate cephalopod shell which is closely or loosely coiled in an asymmetrical depressed or elevated spiral. Such shells among the Nautiloidea are distinguished as trochoceracones, and among the Ammonoidea as turriliticones. In all cases they present phylogerontic stages of the particular races of which they are the terminals.
