  • Over at the American Dialect Society, someone was less than impressed with the shortlist:

    "Gee, this is pretty disappointing. You think of Oz you think of all that hearty slang like 'bogan', 'tin-arsed', 'bludger', ''within cooeeof' and such like, but this is all stunt words & media portmanteaux. I did have hopes for 'toad buster' but then I looked it up and discovered it just means somebody who busts toads."
