Sometimes the fusion affects flowers belonging to different branches of the same inflorescence, as in _Centranthus ruber_, described by
_Centranthus macrosiphon_ yielding as much as 55\% of syncotylous children  and thereby evidently betraying the nature of a rich or double race.
If you live in the southern half of Britain and cannot find a wall with Centranthus after a half-hour walk around your neighbourhood, then you aren't really trying.
Among these escaped aliens, top of the list is surely Centranthus ruber, red valerian, a plant that in my experience is now everywhere.
