At 6 am, together with six students, Marisa and I (exactly half of our original group) arrived at Gillman's Point, which is at an elevation of 5685m.

The actual highest point - Uhuru Peak - is 210m higher and, unfortunately, a good 2 hr walk from Gillman's Point.

While there were some who were determined to suffer through the cold weather, altitude sickness, and grueling exercise to arrive at Gillman's Point, there were other students who were fascinated by other things entirely.

Our guides didn't even give us the option of continuing on to Uhuru - partially because of our exhaustion and altitude sickness (one of the kids was vomiting - but determined to continue!), but also because we only had two guides with us and because we arrived at Gillman's a little bit later in the morning than we should have.
