  • noun An extinct species or subspecies of diminutive human known from a skull and other fossil remains found on Flores Island, Indonesia, dating from about 95,000 to 13,000 years ago. It has been nicknamed the Hobbit, or Flores man. Some scientists classify the remains as those of Homo erectus, and others suggest that the skull is that of a modern human suffering from microcephaly.
