"Huh?"
"Ant Patrol?" I asked again, pointing to the former constructions which were now smears of dirt.
She said, "That's what I do - walk along everywhere and smash all them things out."
I shook my head, patted her on the elbow, then kept walking so I could catch my bus.

You know, it's funny... I really did get the sense that I shouldn't disturb her any more than I already had - maybe she was Pallas Athena in disguise... or the mean fairy who hadn't been invited to some christening party for some princess.
