  • A Book of Gold is the one book, the first book that made you a librarian. A librarian is someone who has a collection of books, however small, that they protect and keep for the love of books. My Book of Gold is The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

  • I guess that's why I'm not a librarian, although I've often considered dropping math, science, and computers for librarianism. I can't think of that first book that made me love to read. I've been reading extensively since I was maybe 8 years old, and while there are books I read back then that I still enjoy to reread, I can't think of a Book of Gold.

  • The book that made me a collector of books, as opposed to someone who amasses books to read or for reference, is Codex Seraphinianus. Written in an unknown language, it illustrates an unknown civilization.

  • WOW! Mollusque, I do believe that is the single coolest thing I have come across in a very long time. I am planning to try very hard to see a copy of it as I can't afford to order a copy of it in any language. Thank you for telling about this. (Hugs)

  • Glad you like it, Treeseed. The Codex was the start of my collection of bizarre and (or) beautiful books, but I've never found anything to top it. Two other wonderful books are In Flagrante Collecto and Why Paint Cats.

  • Wonderful! I already own the cat book as it turns out but I've put 'Flagrante Collecto' on my amazon wish list. Thanks m. The 'codex' is intriguing too; gonna keep an eye peeled for that'n!

  • mollusque,

I have Why Cats Paint in my library...love it. I think In Flagrante Collecto sounds wonderful. Thank you for mentioning it.

  • As far as a book of gold for me, it would probably be some volumes of poetry by H.H. Knibbs I acquired long ago. One of his poems is featured in my list: Poetrie:"Out There Somewhere".

  • I'm now wishing I could browse your libraries, mollusque and oroboros. :-) (The real kind, not the online ones.)
